Our Story
Catboat Coffee Co. honors the island’s long and storied history with the iconic New England sailboat! Our family, like Martha’s Vineyard, has its own history with catboats, leading us to where we are today.
According to island shipwrights, catboats are unique to coastal Massachusetts and Long Island. With their shallow draft and their sturdy shape, they could traverse the shoal bays and sounds. They were perfect for inshore fishing, but as the Cape and Islands became a tourist destination, the catboat sailors would stop fishing in the summer and use them for hosting picnics and cocktail parties.
Just like our multifaceted namesake, Catboat Coffee Co. will be a place to find provisions for any event. Your morning coffee, your lunch break, your party fare, your afternoon snacks, your beach picnic, and anything else you can imagine. Catboat Coffee Co. will have what you need between our regular menu, our seasonal specials, and our curated gifts and pantry goods that are gorgeous and reliable, just like catboats themselves.

Our Team
Siblings Andrew Danberg-Ficarelli, Alexander Ficarelli-Danberg, and Meredith Danberg-Ficarelli grew up visiting the Edgartown home where their mother was born and raised. Fast forward to 2020, and Alex and Meredith found themselves living on the island with their respective spouses, Morgen Schroeder and Naji Boustany. Before long, the family had a dream of opening a shop that could combine all of the family’s food endeavors under one roof, and thus Catboat Coffee Co. was born!
Catboat Coffee Co. is the creation of our island family with a long history with catboats. Our family’s current catboat is a 17’ Menger named ‘Crepidula’ (hull #1 of its kind!). Look for her sailing around Edgartown harbor, and please say hello! In the shop, you’ll see the mast, boom, and gaff of “Catama”, the Beetle Cat our mom grew up sailing around Edgartown. We truly love catboats and hope that you will too.

Catboat Coffee Co. is the home of sister brands, Epicure and Martha’s Vineyard Cheesery. Our menu is inspired and influenced by Epicure’s Lebanese flavors and Martha’s Vineyard Cheesery’s curated selections of artisanal cheeses.
Epicure is a premier and authentic Lebanese farm to Sandwich food business on Martha’s Vineyard, inspired by the infamous cuisine of Lebanon, (the birthplace of Epicure’s creator Naji Boustany). Epicure brings together local island ingredients and the color and richness of flavor of Naji’s home.
Martha’s Vineyard Cheesery was created by Morgen Schroeder, out of an admiration of local cheese makers and a desire to foster incredible island memories. Combining a cut-to-order cheese counter with a curated selection of small-batch accompaniments, Martha’s Vineyard Cheesery provides whatever you need to build your own creation or enjoy one of ours.

This carries through in our sustainability efforts, such as composting in our shop, environmentally-friendly packaging, waste management education, and responsible sourcing practices.
